Christmas Gift Baskets

By Ken Marlborough

Get Elaine Turner Handbags - eFashionHouse

One doesn’t necessarily have to be a child to secretly wish for special gifts on Christmas. All the gifts that Santa could bring riding on his sleigh can be sent to friends and loved ones in a Christmas gift basket.

Christmas symbolizes the spirit of giving. What better way to celebrate the Christmas spirit than to send a Christmas gift basket?

All the flavors and scents of the season wrapped up in a basket convey your sincerest season’s greetings. A Christmas gift basket can manifest all that Christmas stands for. It can hold exquisite balsam fir wreaths fresh from the woods. It can also have decorations for a Christmas tree – little bells, twinkling lights, splendid ribbons and angel tree-toppers. Christmas ornaments, hand-blown from colorful volcanic ashes can be wonderful gifts that go into the basket. Christmas figurines, collectibles and nativity sets are perfect mementoes for the festive season.

The Christmas season has some special foods associated with it. Gourmet food baskets stuffed with yummies like chocolates, cookies and candies would be a mouthwatering Christmas treat. An array of fine wines is another special way of saying Merry Christmas. A Christmas gift basket filled with gourmet food will double the joy of a Christmas party. You can enjoy the goodies while you sing carols by the fire.

A Christmas gift basket is the best way to send your wishes to friends, family and professional acquaintances. It is the one thing that you need to make your Christmas perfect, besides snow!

Fashion tips - Your Handbag

See all Elaine Turner Handbags

Do you love handbags, buy the latest trends and have lots of them in different sizes, colors and patterns or are they simply an essential item? Maybe you like handbags but don’t have the time or money to keep your closet stocked. Handbags are a great accessory and can spice up an outfit and also reflect your personality. Whether you change your handbag with every outfit or carry one for months I have a few suggestions that may make a difference in what you choose.

Invest in Quality
Before you buy make sure that your bag is well made. Check the stitching to make sure it is secure. Make sure the zipper works properly and in the case of cotton bag, that the zipper doesn’t get caught in the material. A good quality, classic purse will last for many seasons.

Is Your Bag the Right Size?
Your bag should be in proportion to your body. If you are a small, petite woman do not carry a huge bag because it will overwhelm you. Large, tall women should stick to larger bags. The key is keeping your bag in proportion to your to your size.

The Occasion
If you can find a bag that will take you from the beach to school, to an evening out that’s great but not likely. Different occasions require different bags. A straw bag is great for the beach, a knapsack style bag is great for school, and a clutch is great for an evening out. However, neither can be used for many other occasions. A black leather purse can be most versatile and can be used for many occasions. However, a black leather purse will probably not be enough you may still need a straw bag, knapsack or clutch depending on your lifestyle.

Your Bag Should Complement Your Outfit
If you dress in one color, spice it up by choosing a handbag that matches the accessories you’re wearing. If you’re wearing patterns or prints carry a handbag that is a solid color (choose one of the colors in the pattern). This is a season when there are lots of bags to choose from in different styles, colors and patterns. Handbags can be a great accessory, so, before you buy, keep in mind how often you will want to use it, where will it fit in and what it will match.

Handbag Suits Your Body Type

from Fashion Trend Super Model News Designers

What Handbag Suits Your Body Type? There are thousands of styles and designs of handbags to choose from and that makes it difficult to find a perfect handbag. In choosing a handbag you must put into consideration the shape of body you have so that you won't look large or out of proportion. See to it that the body type you have matches the handbag that you carry. If you are tall and thin, you will be able to choose almost any style of handbags. Clutched and over sized handbags and shoulder bags will suit you nicely. Large handbags may look best on you because you are tall and long legged. If you choose smaller handbags you would look even taller than you are, but if you really like smaller handbags just make sure it fits snugly under your shoulders. For short and plump girls you need to pay careful attention for the handbags you choose to buy. Smaller bags may look best in you since large ones may make you even shorter. Short purses will create height and will make you look taller than you use to be.

The curvy ones are lucky because a handbag can emphasize your curve. You can choose a handbag that hits just above the waist. These will look great in your posture. Having a medium sized handbag will work best in enhancing such body type. For plus sized body type you must avoid using small handbags because this tends to make you look bigger. Also avoid handbags that has short straps. Try handbags that are slightly wider and larger than normal sizes since they will make you appear smaller. So now you already have an idea how to choose a handbag that suits your body type. Remember that handbags do not only depend on your body type but also on the outfit you are wearing including the shoes.

The World of Elaine Turner

By erin of Handbags

Elaine Turner is a fabulous Accessory designer. I absolutely love her handbag creations. They are fun, durable and modern chic! A little background: In 2000, former apparel designer and merchandiser Elaine Turner put her industry experience, love of accessories and passion for all things stylish to work on her first-ever handbag collection. Elaine’s impressive fashion pedigree, coupled with a keen interest in textiles and timeless style, led to the creation of a unique, conceptually-driven debut collection that instantly stood apart from the rest.

Fans of the Elaine Turner collection have come to anticipate her rare yet elegant combinations of the unexpected. “We are recognized for our use of embossed exotic leathers such as ostrich, croc, and python. Seasonally, our uniquely designed and painted grass cloth bags have also become a well known signature look for the line,” says Turner. Striking custom hardware bearing Elaine Turner’s signature crown logo is also iconic to the brand.

Although Turner incorporates elements that make her bags conversation pieces she’s never a slave to fly by night trends. “I stay true to my customer’s desire for something decidedly sophisticated and classic, but with a twist.” As Elaine Turner’s collection continues to evolve and expand, so does her company. 2007 brought many exciting company developments including the launch of small leather goods, beach and travel collections. Elaine Turner handbag collections are perfect for travel, night’s out on the town and of course the daytime, everyday accessory! Shop her FAB collections of Totes, Satchels and Clutches!

A little bit about Elaine Turner

Here's a little bit about the wonderful designer handbag creator Elaine Turner. She's been able to keep quality, style and design aligned perfectly season after season since taking on the task in 2000.

According to Elaine, after having spent several years in New York City paying her dues in fashion design and merchandising, she felt it was time to pursue a life-long dream of owning her own business. Her intense love of fashion, and especially accessories, inspired Elaine to design a handbag collection that she felt would appeal to a woman with a sense of self. A woman not obsessed with the latest fad, but rather someone who was looking for a bag that made them feel unique and special.

Elaine Turner handbags are the kind of purse woman love to carry. Click here for a guaranteed lowest price online for Elaine Turner.

Elaine Turner Hunter Shoulder Bag

from Senora Cartera

I can't praise accessories
designer Elaine Turner enough. Her talent for creating sophisticated handbags with a modern twist have me wishing I had a fatter bank account and a bigger closet. Just a couple of months ago I wrote about the gorgeous Alex Embossed Ostrich Tote, and now I'm bringing you one of my favorite bags from her Spring collection.

Sporting an absolutely delicious pecan color, the Hunter Shoulder Bag, measuring 14 x 13 x 5, is made from rich, distressed leather with gold-tone hardware. The 'Hunter' features dual leather top handles with square ring detail, detachable leather shoulder strap, front/rear/bottom straps-tabs with logo-engraved rivet detail, chain-link accented flap with magnetic snap closure, and signature crown-print lined interior with zipped pocket. This bag is the perfect example of how a thoughtful designer who provides modern interpretations of classic styles knows exactly what to give a handbag lover without drowning her in superfluous embellishments.

Elaine Turner Handbags & eFashionHouse.com on Preppy Princess

We were stumbling along as usual during our daily surf's up online and came across this very cool blog call Preppy Princess. Here's what they had to say about Elaine Turner Handbags and eFashionHouse.com.

Byte #2: Also bright and cheery while retaining its timeless elegance is the Elaine Turner Sconset Terah Large’ Tote bag at Nordstrom we showcased in a post yesterday. Apparently Nordstrom is out of stock on this item. However, a savvy reader (you know who you are!) has alerted us to the availability of another Elaine Turner bag in that same Poppy print! Not only does it appear to be available, but for anyone thinking about economizing on handbags it is offered at a great price. The good folks at eFashionHouse.com have the Turner Beach Tote in all its bright and roomy wonder, ideal for almost any occasion! In addition they have loads of other Turner handbags, including the Danielle Tiki Floral seen below along with the Danielle Sea Blue Grasscloth large tote, a lush and lovely look that will be stunning on anyone’s arm. This is not to mention all of the other designer bags they carry, the perfumes, — definitely worth a stop as soon as you have a nanosecond! And thank you faithful reader!

Shopping Online for a Designer Handbag

by The Bag Lady

Fashionistas are constantly keeping up with the up-to-the-minute trends, especially having "owning" their own designer handbags, one, two, three, -- actually hundreds! If you’re a fashion admirer on a budget, it might be somewhat challenging to find handbags that you can afford. Here are some sites and stores you’ll want to investigate, as well as some tips for shopping if you are hoping to find the best deals.

The internet destination eFashionHouse has an excellent selection for you to select from if you’re looking for any type of designer handbag brands, prices, sizes and styles. You’ll find designs from Versace, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci and Dior, as well as an excellent pre-owned store called LuxuryVintage. The site has everything you require in order to stand out in a crowd and produce your own personal fashion statement.

Online Handbag Blog Resources
If you’re looking for a large designer handbag selection, you’ll also want to check out these Google Blogs: ValueBags.com, LuxuryVintage.com, TanoBag.net, MelieBiancoHandbags.com, MurvalHandbags.net, PietroAlessandro.net, ElaineTurnerHandbags.com, and DesuignersLA.com. Brands like Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Prada, and Fendi are featured, and you will probably save money by shopping through the blogs because the prices are more affordable than in most department stores with additional discount codes posted daily.

You will find Prada messenger bags to use for work or school, and the designer book bags from Prada are fashionable and convenient as well.

Pricing and Style
When you’re trying to locate a designer handbag, it’s best to buy one that will go with just about everything in your closet. Elaine Turner handbags, Murval handbags and Melie Bianco handbags come in a variety of low to moderate prices in black or brown neutral seasonless colors and you can wear them with anything from a business suit, to a t-shirt and jeans. In addition, you want to make sure that you buy a bag that is large enough to fit all the items in it that you will need for the day. Small bags are generally used to carry inside a large day bag or for evening wear, so you want to make sure that it will work for you and your lifestyle.

We don't like using or suggesting online shoppers to use eBay auctions anymore. We've heard too many horror stories about fakes, defective and horrible merchandise being shipped through the auction sites. Some of the stores have handbags and make sure you purchase from a reputable seller. Brands like Isabella Fiore and Chanel are featured at some online stores, and the prices are high. You would probably be better off shopping at a reputable site like eFashionHouse.com where everything is reduced to sell. Write to the site and ask for an additional discount. They will usually send you an extra percent off your purchase when you are ready to place the order. For example, if you send them an email, you may be able to get an extra 5% off Chanel, Chloe, Hermes and other high end items excluded from their Sale sections. Otherwise, if you browse their Sale and Final Clearance sections you can find a huge amount of designer handbags and accessories at an additonal 10% to 20% off using coupon codes OFF 10 and OFF20.

Let's face it. Women love a new purse, and even in economic times where the budgets are tighter, they can afford an Elaine Turner bag, a Murval bag or a Melie Bianco bag. They are all priced just right and very high end fashion designed. Happy online shopping!

Story:
My husband and I own the business. I was a former apparel merchandiser and designer in NYC. My background is in private label design for mass retailers such as Talbot's, Ann Taylor etc. My dream was to have my own business. It was great timing for accessories. All the hot ready-to- wear designers were branching off into accessories and I felt there was a niche in the mid-market handbag area for contemporary, classic, accessible handbags. Accessories were becoming the best way to update your wardrobe and express your individuality. My work experience enabled me to understand the needs of a wider audience. We got started 7 years ago. Handbags are an instant, "feel good" item. Accessories are the surest way to make a customer happy- no trying them on, no, "I am feeling too fat today" etc.. It's all about the moment and watching someone instantly become happy with the purchase of her new handbag! I respond to that and this is why I wake up happy and WANT to go to work everyday.

Our target audience is late 20's to 65 and up. We seem to attract young professionals and chic Mom's. We are known for our unexpected mix of materials and for our ladylike elegance. For example, we have an extensive straw collection and we combine straw with the luxurious leathers such as python and croc. We source all Italian leathers. We have been extremely successful with our distressed lamb collection that is in stores now. Our inspiration really comes from our customer base- everything we do stems from what we feel she would respond to. We follow all the current trends, but we are sure to interpret them in a way we feel she would like. We never want to lose sight of who she is. Our line is contemporary yet classic. We never want to be a "fly by night" trend collection. We want there to always be longevity and value in the bags we create. We are currently designing Spring 2008 and just opened our first retail store in Dallas at North Park mall. And we are expanding our product offering into baby bags, weekenders, Small leather goods and cosmetic cases.

We are a true original. It was really about 2 people who wanted to start and business and did just that. I think the intimacy of the brand is unique -there is a face behind the brand. I feel like we separate ourselves from our competitors in that we are offering an elegant, sophisticated product at an approachable price point. All too often what you are envisioning in your head is not what the initial design or prototype looks like! It's a definite "UH-OH" moment. But you have to put your nose to the grind stone and fight through it and be persistent about what you want.

My greatest achievement with regard to my business is starting it. I think that is ultimately the hardest part. It really is about the journey and living each day. I do not want to be living for what "might" happen in the future. That is futile. So I choose to look at what I have accomplished now and how I can build on that each day. From a more literal perspective, opening a store in North Park center in Dallas has been exhilarating. There is nothing quite like experiencing a tangible, three dimensional space that communicates your brand. Every time I walk in that store I am affirmed as to why I am doing this. The reason it is all worth it, is making women happy everyday! I have to say, we are in the "make women happy business." You don't meet too many disgruntled customers in the handbag business- you see lots of smiles! That's what keep me going!

Designer Purses - Best Ways to Store Them

ELAINE TURNER designer handbags Alexis platinum distressed leather bucket bag shoulder bag designer purses.

from Purses 'n Bags

My thoughts on the best ways to store your designer purses. The life of a designer purse depends much on how it is been used or handled by the person who bought it. If preserved properly, designer purses last long. On the other hand, if treated it to rough use, it won’t remain in good shape for long, all the company guarantee and manufacturing techniques not withstanding.

Here are few tips for doing so:

1. Place the bags that you usually use on the top or side shelf of your closet. Don’t put them on the floor unless it is stored securely in boxes.

2. Rather than saving them in air tight boxes, store your designer purses in wicker storage baskets or plastic bags that allows air circulation. Doing so also makes it easy to stack them away in shelves/cupboards.

3. Store the purses, which you will not use too often, wrapped in cloth storage bags or cotton pillow cases. Avoid boxes or cases that do not permit air flow.

4. If you store more than one bag together in a case/box, ensure that the metal parts of bags such as chains and rings does not scratch or torn other bags in the case. Undo buckles on straps or use tissue paper to cover the metal parts so that bags don’t ‘hurt’ each other while being tucked away.

5. In order to keep the bag in shape, to prevent it from crushing inside the box, stuff it with tissue paper or any non-acid filling (don’t use old newspapers). Bubble wrap is a better choice over tissue paper wraps because the former does not attract moths.

6. Finally, place a small crucible of baking powder on the floor, at the back of your closet where the bags are kept, so that the space won’t smell musty after some time.

In addition to doing all these, make it a point to periodically clean your purses so that it’ll remain fresh always. Most times, it is the lack of attentiveness that spoils your purses.

I hope you found this info helpful. Love you and your bags, Kimberly.

Heroes and Handbags x 2!!

from HeroesforChildren
posted by Larissa Linton

Wow!! What an incredible two weeks it has been!! Preparing for our largest two fundraisers to occur within 10 days of each other is quite a feat!! Luckily, we have an amazing office staff, and two amazing event chairs, Elizabeth Gambrell in Dallas, and Mary Lou Fernandez in Houston. We are also blessed with a committee of dedicated, hardworking volunteers who work hard for over 10 months to make these events the huge successes that they are!

Houston Heroes and Handbags was held on Wednesday, March 26th at River Oaks Country Club. With a silent auction of over 160 handbags to bid on, the champagne was flowing and the 500 plus women (and a few lucky men) were in shopping heaven!!

Valobra donated a GORGEOUS custom designed diamond ring with two hearts on it, especially for Heroes for Children. The hearts representing Taylor and Allie. One lucky lady won the raffle and wore it home on her finger! What a prize!! Elaine Turner and her crew were there with a huge display of Elaine Turner bags up for grabs! As I cruised by the table, many of them had already been sold with the "buy it now" option!! No surprise, as her bags are gorgeous! They also had on hand the Taylor and Allie bags available for presale, with 50% of the sale going back to Heroes! All morning line the ladies were lined up to purchase these great bags! Also, we had a special treat and surprise as Chloe Dao, the Season Two winner from Project Runway showed up with one of her sisters! Jenny was thrilled as she is a HUGE Project Runway fan!!

As we moved into the dining room for brunch, we were treated to a moving and at times hilarious speech by Brian Moreno. Brian is one of our board members, and his son, Austin, is being treated for leukemia. Brian reminded the crowd that childhood cancer could happen to any of our kids, and rallied the ladies (and gents) to fill out their donor cards for Heroes for Children!!

Dallas Handbags was held last Friday, April 4th at The Hilton Anatole in Dallas. The wind, rain and cold weather did not deter the 700 plus ladies from making it to this hot ticket event!! Once again, the silent auction room was full with over 180 vintage and designer handbags all up for grabs! From Chanel to Valentino, the choices were endless! Once again, the ladies from Elaine Turner were on hand with a slew of beautiful bags up for auction. I believe over 60 orders were taken for Allie and Taylor bags too! After the auction ended, the group moved into the Chantilly Ballroom and were treated to the moving speech of Jennifer Houser. Jennifer has been very involved with Heroes for Children in many ways. She and her husband, Doug, are our honorary chairs of the event this year. She also serves on our advisory board, and was very involved with Heroes and Handbags this year. Jennifer's son, Ryan, was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2001. Jennifer shared Ryan's story of courage with us. Thankfully, Ryan is healthy and happy. He is a grad student at California State University and is engaged to be married next year. Once again, those in attendance were moved to make a donation and make a difference in the lives of children living with cancer. Another lucky lady won the gorgeous Matthew Trent wraught iron and diamond earrings in the raffle!

At both events we had the pleasure of having several of the families and their children that HFC has assisted there. These children are the reason we work so hard to fundraise for Heroes. They are our mission, and we were blessed to have them there. We also had many of the social workers in attendance. These two events will enable Heroes for Children to continue providing families with much needed financial assistance. Thanks to everyone who attended, i know a great time was had by all! (Hopefully you left with a new handbag on your arm too!) After a long nap, I think I will be ready to start planning for next year!

More to Love - Elaine Turner

Elaine Turner Maya Bag - click for more details

from Pink Memo Dallas

Those who know fashion understand that it’s one thing to keep up with the latest from the runways, and another to drive fashion home in a stylish way. We mean, organically transcend the look of each season into one that fits you.

Alana Israelson, owner of Merge, opened a second location at the Preston Royal Shopping Center at the end of October. This urban concept boutique is more than just a jean bar, where you can find denim from Morphine Generation to Hudson and Genetic, this 3,100 sq. ft. space is bigger than the first location in Plano at The Shops of Legacy and debuts a kid’s section.

Unique to Merge is the merging of high-end fashion and commercial fashion. Together, they foster a look to fit your lifestyle. Whether it’s a shirt by talented newcomer Elijah, or shoes by Loeffler Randall, you can be certain that you’ll be trendy in the pairing. Even a tee shirt by Plain Jane and a jacket by Marc by Marc Jacobs go a long way. In case you’re wondering, Israelson was a former manager at the Laundry of Shelli Segal boutique in New York’s SoHo, and brings years of experiences from American Apparel, and L.A.’s Fred Segal before opening Merge.

Next up in a gals’ endless repertoire of accessories is handbags. Bags, bags, and more bags! Don’t you just love them? Even though fall is almost over, designers are already springing forward. The look for spring is all about vibrant and lush colors, animal print, floral, and feminine chic. And Texas designer Elaine Turner has plenty of that coming to you in the Spring and Travel 08 collections.

Bona fide Fashionistas know that its not about one solitary bag to suit all your fashionable needs, instead, these days handbags define, enliven, and enhance one’s look with the switch of a bag. Elaine Turner gave an exclusive look into her Spring ‘08 and Travel Collection at the flagship store in NorthPark Center last month. Those who are familiar with the Elaine Turner line know that the handbags are about novelty, mixed-in-materials, texture, and print. Keeping that in mind, owning a few of her handbags can take you very far, and that’s also what her new collection is all about.

The theme for the Spring Collection ‘08 is “Destination Glamour,” says Turner the former ready-to-wear designer. “It’s all about where the bag is going to take you.” Elevate casual to semi-casual and semi-formal to formal wear with a gold Bella or a Nicole, both new styles. And the secret is all in the design of the bags: simplicity, exotic, and architectural. Also, expect lots of straw, metallics, and colors like bronze, gold, and silver in the new line. They all sport the Palm Beach chic look.

As for the Travel Collection, Turner says it’s about “feeling chic, and being functional.” The bags are coated and protected (thank goodness), versatile, and fit nicely into a carry-on or luggage. When you’re ready the bags transform into a beach, gym, or day bag. The new Travel Collection arrives in stores like Tootsies and Nordstrom in March and Turner also plans to launch additional accessory collections such as shoes and belts sometime in the near future.

Keeping up with the latest trends can be daunting. If you find yourself too busy, and too inundated with what’s hot and what’s not, don’t fret. Hop over to see Stefani Schultz’s the owner of Crimson in the City, and let her staff work the transformation on you.

The selection of merchandise fashions a look that’s sophisticated yet on the cutting-edge, more urban, with brands like Tolani, Ronen Chen, and Lilith, who are just some of the exclusives found in the store. Matt Jalili the buyer, orders no more than 3 to 4 pieces at any one item, so check back often because new items arrive weekly. Shopping downtown is really the place to be seen. Not to mention that the customers are trendsetters themselves who are confident in making a bold fashion statement.

If you’ve been a loyal Crimson customer all this time, you also know about the launch of the online boutique last month. Now Crimson in the City can dress both International clients and local customers with a convenient one-stop shop online. Although, you can’t beat shopping at the boutique, which is a destination in itself, it’s inviting, it’s warm, and it’s right in the city, in the historic Downtown Power & Light Building. What more can we say?

Add these shops and styles to your look book. After all, what it comes down to is there are two things: lifestyle and choices, and you have plenty of them in Dallas.

How To Find The Perfect Handbag

Photo courtesy of Elaine Turner Handbags
By Mary Olaya

Let's be honest. These days there are hundreds of
handbag styles to choose from. So as a consumer, where do you begin? Do you follow the fashion experts? Does the latest It handbag necessarily mean you must have that bag this season? Do you choose one that compliments your figure and works well with your wardrobe? Or do you choose quality with an affordable price tag?

Well, the answer is Yes - for all of the above. But there are also other factors to consider too.

Trying on a
handbag is just as important as trying on clothes. Where your handbag rests will actually draw the most attention. If someone is glammed up, the first detail others will notice is accessories, most likely your handbag. A handbag can make or break your look.

The most important factor to consider when choosing the right
handbag for your body type is Size and Shape. That choice is more difficult for tiny and shorter ladies.

Small and classic handbag shapes generally work best. Focus on smaller
handbag that fit tightly and comfortably underneath your shoulder. It's all about proportion. Stay away from large, rectangular shapes. Small shoulder handbags are a great alternative. They work perfectly with figure proportions and add length to the body and arms. More defined round shapes, such as the gaucho & silverado styles, work too.

Also consider the handles and their positioning. The handle drop should not have too much. A
handbag that sits below your hips will make you appear shorter. If you need a sling/messenger bag, be sure the shoulder strap is adjustable and let the bag rest near your hips and no lower. Avoid oversized, bulky bags unless you need an overnight or weekender. Big sizes will not flatter your shape.

Another perfect alternative is clutches. Go for different colours and styles. Clutches are versatile during the day and will carry all your necessities in the evening.

There are also limitations for taller ladies. Although they have a height advantage, some styles still won't work. If you're tall or slim, your long limbs work well for more rectangular and square structured shapes, such as motorcycle and paddington styles.

If you're not already a fan of oversized bags, get cracking. Oversized
handbag are definitely - In. Fashion has embraced the oversized trend in handbags and clothing lately. What's the best tip? It's what our parents told us for years. Less is more. So consider a bag that's not too oversized. Don't go over the top. Go for box styles or rectangular shapes. The biggest blunder many make with these styles is practicality. Never carry an oversized bag empty. Oversized bags look flat and empty with just your wallet and keys inside. Use these bags as a useful shopping tote. Now, that's just plain easy.

Never let an oversized shoulder bag sit pass your hips. Straps should be short or adjustable. Not only will the bag look better, but its weight won't put pressure on your lower back. It's important for you to move comfortably and easily.

Let the
handbag speak for itself. Do the inside compartments hold all your necessary essentials? Do you like its style and overall look? In the end, you have to be happy. After all, a handbag should be a girl's best accessory, not a burden.

So You Love Handbags?

ELAINE TURNER designer handbags Danielle Tiki Floral
large tote bag designer purse.

from BagFancy

A few things to consider before shopping

So you really like handbags. Okay, maybe you love them. That much is clear.

But now what? Picking a handbag isn't rocket science, but there are some things to think about when shopping. Some are questions of what you want in a bag, while other considerations are much more practical. Thinking through these can make a difference between being happy with your purchase or leaving your new bag sitting in your closet collecting dust.

Style
You're browsing, and you spot a bag that you're absolutely in love with. Sitting on the rack (or calling to you from your computer screen), it's the cutest thing you've ever seen!

But unless you're going to hang it on the wall of your apartment for your guests to admire, you'll want to ask yourself this question:

What is this bag going to look like on me? Remember that a bag is only one piece of the puzzle - it should ideally match an outfit or your wardrobe (not just color, but also style and attitude). So before buying, mentally cruise your closet and try to think of what you would wear while carrying that bag.

Image is everything!!! When considering handbags/outfits, look at the image you are trying to project. Whether you're going for cute, sexy, cool, chic, conservative, etc. think of how the bag will help you pull off the image. Remember, everyone is unique and some styles don't work for everyone. Also, not all styles work for every occasion. Generally you will shop with specific kinds of activities or events in mind - and of course a formal night out is not going to be the same as a day of running errands. You might eventually want to develop a rotating repertoire of different styles for different occasions.

Finally, consider your body shape and size. Handbags come in many different shapes and colors along with style, so make sure to pick one that is flattering for you. Take a look at a guide to matching body and handbag shape before picking (see Links at bottom of article).

Carrying Capacity
All right, so you've found a handbag that looks great on you. But it is a bag, after all, and you just might also want to put stuff in it.

How much will you be able to fit in your potential bag? Also, what are you going to put in it? Along with the overall size of the bag, give some thought to things like compartments and accessibility.

Comfort
Another question: how easy will it be to carry? How big is the bag, and what kind of handle does it have? Depending on where you're going and whether you have a place to put your bag, you might end up holding it for a while.

You're going to look great with your new handbag. You might as well be comfortable too!

Price
From the infrequent buyer to the shopaholic, we all eventually ask ourselves: How much should I spend? What is this bag worth to me? "Worth" is not just a matter of a dollar value, but also of what it does for you when you have it. Will you be happy that you spent the money and bought it? Is it worth giving up lunch for a week to own that cute bag? Is it worth giving up the extra week's lunch for the matching shoes you now need? Whether you spend thousands of dollars on a Hermes Kelly Bag or $8 on a tote bag from Target, if it was worth it to you, then as Bob Barker says… the price is right.

In the end…
Shopping for a bag should be fun. That's what it's all about, isn't it? But if you take a little extra time to consider whether the style, carry capacity, comfort level, and price all suit you - you can end up being that much happier with your choice.

And hey… Informed shopping can be that much more enjoyable anyway!

My Idea of the Perfect Handbag

from Associated Content

I have searched high and low and have yet to find the perfect handbag. When I do go shopping for a handbag, I have certain criteria I'm looking for, and I talk to other women to see what they are looking for, and the vast majority of those my age range (40 and over) are all looking for the same things. If I was talented enough to do so, I would create my own line of handbags. But I'm not gifted in that area ... so I'm giving some freebie advice to all handbag designers ... a lot of women will buy a purse like this if you will just design it! Here are the requirements.

It must pass the drop test. When my handbag is full of goodies and I drop it onto the ground, it must say upright and not tip over and spill out all of the contents.

It must have at least two, preferably three, distinct sections inside and at least one of the sections must be zippered. These bucket bags are nothing but a disaster waiting to happen because you can't find anything when you need it without digging for hours or dumping everything out. They also need to be sturdy so my MP3 player, sunglasses, palm pilot don't get smushed by other things in my bag.

The inside sections need to be big enough to comfortably hold a full size wallet, not just a coin purse. So use a wallet or dayplanner when thinking about the size of these areas.

The material used to divide the sections must be sturdy enough that when something is taken out of one section, everything else in the other section doesn't cave in and make it difficult to get whatever you took out back in. I get so mad when I take out my wallet to pay for something and then go to put it back in my purse only to find that everything is smushed into the middle where the other contents caved in when I removed my wallet.

There must be at least one small zippered pocket inside the sectioned areas, and at least one small open pocket. These pockets are needed to house the various lip glosses, gum, breath mints, loose coins, etc that women tend to carry around.

Elaine Turner Fall 2008

ELAINE TURNER designer handbags Paige stone python designer purse.
from Fashion Ledge

Elaine Turner is the go-to handbag designer for luxe living at an affordable price point. Fall ’08 has three distinct (and much needed offerings): The Voyager Collection, Color Me Happy Collection, and Street Chic Collection. “It’s all about luxury from day to night,” says Elaine Turner. Among the trends this season, points out Turner, is a “return to classic glamour” - - women want to look and feel luxurious. Think Birken-style high fashion.

With signature crown motif in tow, fall ’08 has some real snazzy pieces for an array of occasions. Attention to detail, creative linings and functional designs make fall ’08 a winner. Brilliant color offerings such as chestnut lizard or snow Leopard ensure something for any palette.

Elaine Turner counts Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn amongst her muses because, well, let’s face it, old Hollywood will never be mitigated because of its sense of classic style and easy sensuality. Reese Weatherspoon is one of Turner’s contemporary muses because of her sense of sophisticated and subtle glamour.

Handbags and Feng Shui

By Silvana Rosati-capizzano

Here are some tips help you stay organized and function at optimum levels:

Make sure your handbag is clean, neat and organized.

A smaller handbag that can be worn across your chest, freeing up both your hands will make for an easier shopping trip as well.

What does your handbag look like? Messy, stained, filled with receipts, lists, candy wrappers, endless "to do" lists, old lipsticks, cosmetics, toiletries, heaps of memorabilia, money just thrown in?

Often our handbag become a sea of junk. A lot of us invest a good amount of money in our handbags. We love them, we carry them with pride - but what we carry, is often much more than we need. We often don't give it a thought until it is overflowing with so much stuff that it creates shoulder and neck pain. A messy, heavy handbag is very inauspicious. It causes us stress when we constantly have to dig to find anything. It blocks wealth energy and bogs us down figuratively, physically and literally.

Be reasonable about what and how much you carry.

Make it a habit to clean it out once a week.

To attract wealth energy, also keep a clean, neat, and organized wallet. Coins, bills and cards in their correct space.

Keep lists in an easy access area. When you have completed that days "to do's", throw it out your list.

A clean purse is very auspicious and attracts wealth energy.

A red handbag carry's energized, yang chi. By placing three chinese coins tied together with a red string inside will attract money. If you know a wealthy person, ask them for a bill of money to carry inside your purse. This will carry increased wealth energy inside your handbag .

Help all that money going out this season to find it's way back in.

What ever handbag you fancy, keep it clean, neat, light and organized.

Designer Purses - A Handbag Defines a Woman’s Outfit

from Factory Outlet Handbags

A handbag defines a woman’s outfit, and adds the finishing touches that all women enjoy having to contribute to an attractive and stylish appearance. Having the proper bag for most women is as important as having the proper pair of shoes, wearing the right dress, having appropriate earrings, or any other type of jewelry or accessory. In fact, accessorizing a person’s appearance through use of the right bag is something that most women learn at a very early age and it is a lesson that sticks with them for a lifetime of fashion consciousness.

A young woman for instance may decide that a shoulder style handbag is more appropriate for her looks and her lifestyle than some of the more formal bags that older women wear. Many times young women carry bags that are quilted or made of denim fabric. Others prefer a handbag made of leather or another material that is water resistant. The choices are many, and no one type of handbag is more right than any other as it comes down to personal preference.

Bags Change with Age
When a woman becomes more mature the type and style of handbag she carries is still quite important, but the style will probably change. A career minded woman will want to carry a bag that is practical and businesslike, and yet still feminine. Many times a woman will carry a leather bag made by a well known designer. Some will go for a retro looking handbag, others a replica handbag that resembles the designer bag. Still others will go for top quality in a bag preferring a name like Gucci over some of the handbags that are perceived to be less stylish.

Handbag Purse How Do You Match It?
A handbag purse is a wonderful accessory that complements any given outfit, and if chosen correctly, will even enhance its beauty. However, do you know how to match …..Whatever handbag a woman chooses to carry, the choice is an individual one. Picking the handbag that is right for her is a woman’s prerogative. Men, when choosing gifts for women should keep in mind the types of bags they have seen the woman carry in the past. When in doubt it is always wise for a man to ask another woman, perhaps the sales person in the store, for advice on choosing the right bag. A Skilled sales person can get an idea of a person’s lifestyle and help choose the proper bag. Whatever the choice made happens to be, a handbag is an individual accessory, but all women carry them.

Enjoy Maximum Style With A Discount Handbag
Every woman knows that accessories are the key to accentuating an outfit, but beyond looking pretty it’s rare to find an accessory that actually does anything. A pair of sparkly earrings lends …..

Designer Elaine Turner - Accessory to high style

By CLIFFORD PUGH
from The Houston Chronicle

When Project Runway winner Chloe Dao said she believed she could carve out a successful fashion career in Houston instead of remaining in New York, her co-stars were incredulous.

But Elaine Turner empathizes completely. "Most (store owners) don't care where I'm from," she says. "They just want to sell handbags."

Over the past six years Turner has developed a successful handbag line right here in the Bayou City. Her namesake collection, $195-$700, is featured nationally at Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's. She recently opened her first freestanding boutique in Dallas and plans to expand to other cities.

While building her business, the 35-year-old designer has given birth to two children, now ages 6 and 2. When she became pregnant just before she launched her company in 2000, her mother remarked, "I guess we'll call it the year of creation for you."

Juggling work and family has had its chaotic moments, but Turner wouldn't have done things any differently. "I never could imagine not having my business or not having my own children," she says. "I never thought it was some choice I had to make."

She's had a passion for fashion since she was a child. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1992, the Sugar Land native headed to Dallas, where she became head designer for a small apparel line. Four years later, she moved to New York to work for a private-label manufacturer whose clients included Ann Taylor and Talbots.

She met Jim Turner, her investment banker husband, there. After debating where to put down roots, the couple moved to Houston in 1999. She researched her options and decided to launch a handbag line because she believes it's a product that makes women happy.

"It's instant gratification. You don't have to try it on. You don't feel like you're fat or worry, 'Did my size go up?' It's an instant way to refresh yourself," Turner says.

She noted a gap in the market between inexpensive handbags and high-priced designer labels, so she created a mid-priced collection of contemporary handbags "with a preppy edge" that's now her trademark.

She has successfully attracted both the client who occasionally splurges on a $500 bag and the well-heeled customer who buys three or four Turner bags at a time, figuring that's equal to the cost of one Prada bag.

Her first big seller was a straw handbag with a top handle called the "Jackie," named for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Turner's spring/summer line of painted straw and grass cloth handbags exude the attitude of a chic woman at a Palm Beach resort.

For fall, she's featuring Italian leather bags trimmed in embossed exotics, like snakeskin or ostrich, and with chain wrap detail. A crown logo decorates each bag because she wants everyone to feel like royalty, Turner says.

Earlier this year, she introduced a line of stationary with the crown logo. A small leather goods collection of wallets, passport holders and key chains in ostrich, python and calf is coming in September.

At first, Turner and her husband, who is the company's financial adviser, filled orders in the living room of their Houston home while their infant son sat in a bouncing chair. An order of eight bags from a small store in Arkansas was considered a large account.

"We laugh now, because those were such desperate days," she says. "But that's how every business forms. Even Starbucks started somewhere."

Now she wholesales more than $1 million annually, has a staff of eight, and designs and ships out of a large loft space in the Rice Village. The handbags are manufactured near Hong Kong; her head of sales and public relations are based in New York. Turner flies to New York regularly to meet with major vendors.

"We're not dumb. We know that we have to have that umbilical cord to New York," Turner says. "But Neiman Marcus is not based in New York, and they're the most successful luxury retailer in the world. The world has become so global and accessible. Communication has become so much more efficient through the Internet."

She has been pleasantly surprised by the success of her boutique at the Plaza at Preston Center in Dallas. She chose Dallas over Houston because she didn't want to compete against her sister, who features the line at Glo, a Rice Village accessories store.

"The markets are different, but both are really good," Turner says. "Houston has a real international customer; you don't get as much of that in Dallas. Houston women are so open-minded about labels and brands. They'll never say, 'I'll only wear this.' "

As the company continues to grow, Turner plans to expand to Atlanta, Palm Beach, San Antonio and other parts of Houston. She hopes one day to carve time out of her hectic schedule to mentor up-and-coming designers and encourage them to follow their dreams.

Her message: Be persistent. Be tenacious. But do it your way.

"It's all about what you want out of life. You're still going to be talented whether you're in New York, Houston or wherever. Who's to say a big fat salary in some big fashion company is going to make you happier than your own boutique?"

She also encourages aspiring designers to be serious — but not too serious — about their business. "At the end of the day, fashion is all about fun and fantasy. We're not curing cancer. We're just making pretty things and making women happy."

Women help other women get their businesses off the ground

Elaine Turner's clothing boutique at Dallas' Preston Center
By ANGELA SHAH / The Dallas Morning News

Founders of the Texas Women Ventures Fund had a simple enough goal when they started out six years ago: nurture women-owned companies that might otherwise fall short of their potential. With enthusiastic financial backing from prominent North Texans – largely women, but also oilman Ray Hunt – the fund has raised $5.2 million and made its debut investments in three local entrepreneurs last year. For companies that receive the money, the fund can be a financial lifeline.

Traditional sources of capital often hesitate to lend to firms like the Warrior Group, an upstart DeSoto construction firm that builds modular housing. "That's what I loved about the Texas Women Ventures Fund: It's made of entrepreneurs," she added. "They are people who understand the risk associated with doing business with growing businesses." Joy Wallace, president and chief executive of Joy Foods Inc., and JoAnn Brumit, chief executive and chairwoman of Karlee, form the rest of the fund's inaugural group.

So far, the Texas Women Ventures Fund has handed out only $3 million, small potatoes for a venture capital fund. But it comes as most VC money flows to male entrepreneurs. In 2006, women held majority stakes in 776,283 of Texas' privately held firms. These women-owned companies generated more than $131 billion in sales and employed 971,909, according to the Center for Women's Business Research.

Yet, across the nation, firms headed by women execs receive only about 4.3 percent of the dollars doled out by venture capitalists, according to Dow Jones VentureSource, a research firm in San Francisco. The Texas Women Ventures Fund was founded just after the tech crash in 2001 by four women – a banker, an entrepreneur, a public-relations professional and a venture fund manager. The fund attracted money from 40 area professional women, along with $2 million from Mr. Hunt.

Its mission has to do with more than doling out money, the fund's managers add. Each of them faced obstacles in their careers, so they want to provide mentoring and other intangible support to the next generation of women executives. The fund focuses on companies with an established track record, and those with more of an Old Economy bent. Recipients must already be profitable and have $5 million to $50 million in revenue. The Texas fund's debut came at the same time that other ventures sprang up to target women businesses, said Leslie Grossman, co-founder of the Women's Leadership Exchange in New York, which itself started in 2002.

"Women that have been successful are looking to invest in other women," she said. "In previous generations, there were so few women at the top of organizations, there was the idea that if you helped someone you might lose your position." Now, "There are more women at the top," she said. "It's not as threatening as it used to be." With the help of ventures such as the Texas fund, women are learning how to build business networks, in addition to the social and family ones they always had, Ms. Grossman said.

The Warrior Group's Ms. Warrior-Lawrence, 40, teamed with her husband to found the company in 1997, after her previous employer decided to move to Houston. Her father had owned his own business, so the Lawrences thought they, too, would try the entrepreneurial route. They led the company from infancy through a growth spurt in recent years that resulted in an exclusive subcontracting partnership with construction giant Hensel/Phillips. Included is a $40 million contract for the construction and installation of new barracks at Fort Bliss in El Paso.

The $1 million Warrior Group received from the fund enabled Ms. Warrior-Lawrence to virtually double her staff, filling such key positions as chief financial officer, and adding an estimation and design team as well as sales managers. That investment has helped boost revenue from $15 million in 2006 to an expected $42 million this year, she said. "We would not have been able to achieve the growth that we've had without the capital," Ms. Warrior-Lawrence said. "There's just no way." Joy Foods' Joy Wallace, another $1 million venture fund recipient, also added to her executive staff, as well as purchasing additional manufacturing equipment. Based in Dallas, Joy Foods started in 1998 as a spinoff of Pizza Hut, after that company decided to focus on its core restaurant business.

For nine years, Joy Foods supplied school cafeterias and military commissaries. Now entering its 10th year, the company has formed an alliance with Papa John's Pizza and started to develop its own product line. The advice as well as the money from the fund has helped, said Ms. Wallace, who is 56. "The fund is chock full of women who have all kinds of levels of expertise. The support they offer is amazing." Agreements between the fund and the companies it invests in are confidential and vary from company to company, said co-founder Whitney Johns Martin.

But, generally, the money is essentially a loan at a rate of about 14 percent, to be repaid in three to five years. The fund's total return over the years on any particular investment would be between 25 percent and 35 percent, depending on the perceived risk, Ms. Martin said. Should a recipient falter, the fund's syndicate is prepared to step in and help right the ship – but not in traditional VC fashion, which often involves replacing management with one of the fund's choosing, she added.

"We bring in resources to help current management," she said. "We look at it as a collaborative effort. Others will bring in their own team players to take over." The fund's managers say they do not want a piece of the entrepreneur's company. That's something women CEOs, in particular, seem to find attractive. Women often have shied away from turning to venture capital, said fund co-founder Cynthia Pharr Lee. "They got into the business to be their own boss," she explained. "But they'd grow to a certain level and stop."

Beyond the money, simply gathering businesswomen together can provide a powerful boost, helping them make connections and create networks, Ms. Lee said. An illustration of that, she added, came after a showcase the fund hosted last May, looking for potential fund recipients. The event was held at Elaine Turner's clothing boutique at Dallas' Preston Center. Eileen Kelly, who has a boutique of her own, was one of the attendees. Neither boutique owner won money from the fund.

But from that meeting, a connection was formed. When Ms. Turner's store grew large enough to move to NorthPark Center, Ms. Kelly heard of the move – and her boutique graduated to the Preston Center space.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2008: Elaine Turner, Handbag Designer and Enabler

Handbag designer Elaine Turner

from Merc Extra By Donna Kato

When Liz Embry, a former fashion journalist who is now a publicist, invited a few of us to meet Houston-based handbag designer Elaine Turner and preview her summer, fall and holiday accessories collections, we were intrigued. She is, after all, carried at handbag mecca Nordstrom.
And next to shoes, handbags are my weakness.

It was a particularly heinous schedule today, but we made the time. Why? Because she also offered a close out sample sale of her last season handbags at the same time as her showing.
I was unfamiliar with her bags but now I’m a fan. She does both structured and slouchy styles, wonderful clutches and all of it in gorgeous embossed leathers. The colors are right on target for fall: mustardy gold, cadet blue, reds. Her prices range from $175 for a clutch to $700 for the most intricate designs.

I bought a shoulder bag in a mustard color, the same one bought by an unnamed fashion colleague who works for a paper in the upper Midwest. We figure we’re too far apart to actually be carrying the same bag to the same event as long as we’re not in New York. At a fashion week.

What kind of purse do you carry?

Elaine Turner Handbags

from Head to Toe Beauty

Have you ever took notice of someone’s purse and wondered what that person may be like? The state and type of purse a woman carries can tell alot about what type of person she is. Is she organized, prepared for the unexpected, a disorganized free spirit, or a little of both? With a little examination, you can easily dissect someone’s personality.

If you were to take a look in mine you would guess, from my brightly colored tote bag, that I was creative, approachable and fun loving. The seemingly chaotic contents, you would find, are completely organized for me and full of hidden treasures. My cell phone and a package of sweeties are readily available, right next to my lip gloss. There are many different types of personalities as well as purses to match them.

The tote is a fun loving person. A shoulder bag boasts fashionable practicality, while the backpack is casual practicality. An oversized purse is a practical person who rarely changes purses, she may carry her whole life in this bag. The clutch bag carrier is someone who is confident and not afraid to let someone else hold their items that won’t fit in this small purse. Small, under the shoulder bags implies sophistication and class, usually office workers tend to carry this bag. The cigar box is someone who is comfortable in their own skin and wants to stand out in the crowd. You can guess at what the sleek designer purse shows. It shows someone who tends to be a handful and high maintenance. They are very fashion conscience.

About Elaine Turner

from Eliane Turner

In 2000, former apparel designer and merchandiser Elaine Turner put her industry experience, love of accessories and passion for all things stylish to work on her first-ever handbag collection. Elaine’s impressive fashion pedigree, coupled with a keen interest in textiles and timeless style, led to the creation of a unique, conceptually-driven debut collection that instantly stood apart from the rest.

Fans of the
Elaine Turner collection have come to anticipate her rare yet elegant combinations of the unexpected. "We are recognized for our use of embossed exotic leathers such as ostrich, croc, and python. Seasonally, our uniquely designed and painted grass cloth bags have also become a well known signature look for the line," says Turner. Striking custom hardware bearing Elaine Turner's signature crown logo is also iconic to the brand.

Although Turner incorporates elements that make her bags conversation pieces she's never a slave to fly by night trends. "I stay true to my customer's desire for something decidedly sophisticated and classic, but with a twist."

As
Elaine Turner's collection continues to evolve and expand, so does her company. 2007 brought many exciting company developments including the launch of small leather goods, beach and travel collections. Also, the opening of Turner's retail boutique at Dallas NorthPark Center and the launch of in-store boutiques at all Tootsies locations.
